SUPER Buggy Rules

A 4 wheel vehicle utilizing many different engine combinations with unlimited suspension chassis designs. Engines are limited to cc limits from 1650 to 1835 depending on design and manufacturer with the exception of the GM Ecotec 2.4 Liter V.V.T. LES engine.

SB-1 Race Vehicle

  • A. Maximum track width is 93 inches measured from the outside tire to the outside tire.
  • B. The front bumper must be a minimum of 36 inches with rounded ends.

SB-2 Weight

  • A. Minimum weight with driver is 1820 pounds.
  • B. Stadium SUPER Truck officials may request vehicle to be cleaned before weighing.
  • C. Air cooled weight with driver is 1580 pounds.

SB-3 Engine

Non Ecotec:

  • A. Any automotive engine with production of 5000 or more and available to the public in the United States.
  • B. Maximum of 4 valves per cylinder.
  • C. Air cooled, 1835 cc maximum.
  • D. 2 valves per cylinder, 1715 cc maximum, water cooled.
  • E. 3 or more valves per cylinder, 1650 cc maximum, water cooled.
  • F. Rotary engines are not allowed.
  • G. No fuel injection.
  • H. No variable timing or cam lift.

Ecotec:

  • A. GM Ecotec 2.4 Liter V.V.T.LES engine
  • 1. All engines must have SST serial numbered seals applied only by SST authorized engine builders or agents on the following parts:
  • a. Top cam cover;
  • b. Intake manifold;
  • c. Front engine cover; and
  • d. Oil pan
  • 2. Engine must retain all stock components, configurations and specifications unless permitted by SST officials.
  • 3. All internal components must be in place and be operational at all times (ie. Stock balancer shafts and drive).
  • B. Engine Oiling System
  • 1. The use of an Acu-sump style remote oil reservoir system is allowed
  • 2. Oil pan is open
  • C. Ignition/Fuel Injection System
  • 1. Only a stock GM #17202005 manual cable driven throttle body is permitted
  • 2. Any brand ECU may be used as long as it functions only with the stock GM trigger and pickup
  • 3. Engine functions data logging in the ECU is permitted only for the following sensors: engine RPM, water temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, fuel pressure, lambda 02 sensor, voltage

SB-4 Electrical Accessories

  • A. At the request of television, certain vehicles may compete with telemetry systems, as so installed by the series production television network requesting such information.
  • B. Vehicle digital dashes, data recording devices and/or other form of measurement, sensors or recording of any kind or nature is permitted only for the following: engine RPM, water temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, automatic transmission temp, main pump PSI. Sensor must be a minimum of 12 inches away from transmission.
    • 1. No other sensors, measurement, GPS, track mapping, lap timing device or recording device of any kind is permitted at any time during the entire SST event weekend.
    • 2. Any configuration of data measurement or recording must be completely open and available for SST inspection at anytime during a SST event weekend.
  • C. No traction control devices. This includes but is not limited to speed sensors, linear transducers, drive shaft RPM, steering position, etc.
  • D. No wireless devices in or on the vehicle are permitted.
  • E. No data transfer is allowed to or from the vehicle when in motion.

SB-5 Exhaust

A. Mufflers are required.

SB-6 Carburetor 

Non Ecotec:

  • A. One carburetor for water-cooled; two carburetors for air-cooled.
  • B. Maximum of two venturis per carburetor.
  • C. Maximum venturi size:
    • 42 MM for two valve engines.
  • 29 MM for four valve engines 1600 CC and smaller.
  • 28 MM for four valve engines 1601 CC to 1650 CC.

SB-7 Fuel Cell

  • A. Maximum size is 9 gallons.
  • B. All fuel lines and vent lines must be routed (meaning come out) from the top of the fuel cell.

SB-8 Transmission

  • A. No sequential shift transmissions will be allowed.

SB-9 Wheels and Tires

  • A. Tires must be DOT only, produced in quantity each year, must be available to the general public through normal dealer distribution and must not exceed $200 in price.
    • 1. DOT tire classes are restricted to tires that are intended for highway use and are available to the general public through standard dealers. Internet or one store only tires are NOT acceptable.
    • 2. Tires need to be part of a multiple line of tires sizes within a currently sold design. A tire used in the race should be identical in construction: rubber compound, sidewall with identical tread design as other sizes not used in the race (Example – if the tire used is a 32’ tire, other tires from the manufacturer in sizes like 31’ and 33’ will be the same as the tires raced upon).
    • 3. Tire manufacturer must register with SST tire OEM to allow competitors to use tires provided by OEM’s that comply with stated rules.
  • B. Durometer testing will be done and shall not be below .400 points. Tires may be Durometer tested with race ready conditions prior to any competition on the track.

SB-10 Registration

  • A. All participants must obtain a license with USAC. License with USAC will cost $750.00 and will cover participant for entire season, thereby allowing them to participate in one event or all eleven.
  • B. For each race event, participants must register with their vehicle entry with USAC. Race entry fee will be $750.00 per race event.

SB-11 Race Format

  • A. Qualifying
    • 1. All qualifying laps will be timed.
    • 2. Qualifying will be used to compile the fastest competitors.
    • 3. Competitors will be notified of qualifying order by the Race Director.
    • 4. Competitors will be required to be in race equipment and staged for qualifying.
    • 5. Competitors late to qualifying may be punished at Race Director’s.
  • B. Race Finishes
    • 1. Races are officially ended for all competitors at the completion of the lap in which the checkered flag is displayed to the winner.
    • 2. To be considered as having completed a lap, the competitor’s vehicle must cross the plane of the checkered flag.
    • 3. Competitors will be credited with all laps they complete during a race unless a penalty has been assessed.
    • 4. Competitors choosing to leave a race before its completion will receive credit for laps they have completed.
    • 5. Should the checkered flag be displayed later than the official distance, the finishing order will be decided on the basis of the official distance.
    • 6. Under any other circumstances, the winner is the leader at the time the checkered flag is displayed.
    • 7. A competitor that enters the pit area during a race will not be permitted to return to the race track during a heat, qualifier or main.
    • 8. Should a competitor be given the checkered flag ahead of the actual winner, or with the winners, the competitor will be scored as having completed the race in the race position the competitor was running at the time.
    • 9. A video camera may be used as the finish line to aid the Race Director in determining the finishing order of a close race. Should video footage from a SST designated camera be unavailable or inconclusive for any reason, the scoring of the finish will be based solely on the Race Director’s decision.
    • 10. At the conclusion of the race any competitors who do not complete the same number of laps as the leader will be scored in order of finish.
  • C. Official Race Results
    • 1. No official announcement of race results will be given until all scoring materials are examined and approved by the Race Director.
    • 2. Unofficial results will then be posted and will become official if competitor does not protest against the results within 30 minutes after they have been posted.
    • 3. If rechecks are required within the 30 minute time limit, a new posting time limit of 30 minutes will be required if changes are made to the previously posted results.
    • 4. The issuing of the official results does not exempt competitors who competed in the event from penalties for rule violations determined by the Race Director following the protest period.
    • 5. In case of a protest, competitors are entitled to review their scores with the Race Director.

SB-12 SUPER Buggy Championship Points

  • A. When the results of a SUPER Buggy event are declared official, SUPER Buggy Championship points will be awarded down to a maximum of 15 places for the overall results of the main events.
  • B. The SUPER Buggy Champion will be decided based on the total of series points accumulated from each main event.
  • C. In the event of a tie for the championship, the winner will be determined based on the number of main event wins. Should a tie still remain, finishes of second, third, etc, will be tallied until the tie is broken. If a tie still remains, the best finish in the last race will determine the champion.

If an inversion happens, 1 point per position inverted. Maximum of 3 rows inverted.

7. Position – 3 points
8. Position – 2 points

Qualifying Point System

Position – 1 point
